Studio History

Julie Lang Studio of Dance has a long and rich history in Manchester, CT dating back to 1954 when it was originally founded as the Turner School of Dance by Betty Jane Turner.

Born and raised in Manchester, Julie began dancing at the age of 5 under Betty-Jane's tutelage. As a dancer, she excelled. Julie's love for dance education began in middle school while assisting in her first dance class. Years later, she joined the Turner School of Dance teaching staff. As an experienced teacher, she then became Associate Director of the studio working closely with Betty-Jane. After 23 years of dedication and commitment, Julie took over the studio in 2006, following the retirement of Miss Betty-Jane & Turner School of Dance. Julie and her staff continue to uphold the values of community, kindness, and family and run the studio in Miss Betty-Jane's honor.

Julie Lang Studio of Dance provides quality dance education and instruction in a friendly and encouraging environment. We believe in promoting positive self-esteem while instilling the love and appreciation for dance and movement. Your JLS staff is very passionate about encouraging confidence, teamwork, and personal growth. Beyond creating talented dancers, we strive to teach our students life skills through dance that contribute to their development and overall success. We are honored to provide a safe outlet for physical activity, social interaction, personal expression, celebration and community building. This mission would not be possible without the trust and unwavering support of our studio families.

JLS Dance is more than just a studio, it is a family that continues to grow with the support of parents, alumni, and the community while giving back to the town of Manchester. The studio actively participates in community outreach programs, food & clothing drives, Holiday toy drives, local benefits for churches and retirement communities, and women’s health and empowerment organizations. The studio is dedicated to upholding these good works as a tradition that teaches students about leadership, belonging, and the importance of volunteering their time.

Recital 2024 Season 18

Annual Holiday Showcase & Toy Drive

Each year the studio gives back to a cause that is near and dear to us, Community Renewal Team. Instead of charging an admission fee, we ask that each attendee bring at least 1 toy and a small donation that goes to this cause and allows CRT to provide toys to children for Christmas.

Each year, all of the hard work and preparation the students have dedicated throughout their classes culminates in recital. Their continued commitment is only matched by our instructors and parents. Thank you all for your time and effort year after year. And a special thank you to all of the alumni that come back to assist and dance in the opening number! Your continued support means the world to us.
